As its botanical name 'antidysenterica' implies, Kutaja is one of the best Ayurvedic herbs for bolstering the natural defenses of the GI tract. A good herb to be aware of when traveling to exotic, foreign lands where maintaining healthy, well-formed stools is no joke. Kutaja enkindles the digestive fire, burns natural toxins and helps dispel excess pitta and kapha from the intestines. KUTAJA is the main Ayurvedic herb for bacterial or amoebic dysentery; hence a good herb to know of if one travels in India or other third world countries. Where travelers easily come down with such conditions. Kutaja is specific to the colon in its action and helps restore normal colon function. It is excellent for conditions like candida that are based upon poor flora in the intestines.

However, owing to its strong nature, it should not be taken over long periods of time. Today Kutaja usually comes in a brown form but a white form also exists but is harder to get.

For bleeding hemorrhoids take one-half teaspoon of Kutaja in one-half cup of pomegranate juice, two or three ties a day to stop the bleeding. For burning urination take one-half teaspoon of Kutaja boiled for five minutes in one cup of milk two or three times a day.
